Emporia State University is a comprehensive state-supported university that offers 180 majors at the Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. level. With an enrollment of over 5,900 students from 47 states and 26 countries, ESU is a global campus. Emporia State offers a dynamic and innovative learning environment, where the student is always at the center. In a recent U.S. News and World Report (2010), Emporia State University was ranked among the top-tier universities in the Midwest. Our academic programs include arts and sciences offerings at the baccalaureate and graduate levels; teacher education; extensive undergraduate and graduate business courses; and a library and information management program offering both the Master and Ph.D. degrees. For International Students
In addition to its excellent education programs for both undergraduates and graduates, Emporia State University offers international students extensive special services, activities, and support. The university’s on campus Intensive English Program (IEP) ensures that international students will receive optimum academic instruction during their stay at the university. The international programs, including International Club and the International Choir, are among the most outstanding in the United States. These special activities, along with an excellent academic program, provide students with the best educational experience available anywhere in the world. Housing in Emporia is plentiful and inexpensive. On and off-campus housing includes residence halls, university owned apartments, and privately owned apartments/houses within the community. The three residence halls offer study and recreational facilities as well as an opportunity to meet American students. Off-campus, many apartments, duplexes, and rooming houses are within walking distance from the campus. An active Associated Student Government exists on campus, and the university has over 130 student organizations involving departmental, social, religious, and special interest. The wide variety of organizations, recreational activities, and cultural events contribute to a well-balanced experience for all students.
Area and Climate
The campus of Emporia State University is located in Emporia, an industrial, educational, trade and medical center serving over 60,000 people in east central Kansas. The city of Emporia is midway between Kansas City and Wichita, about 1 1/2 hours by car from each. The downtown area, a short walk from the campus, offers convenient shopping, banking, and other businesses. Emporia is a university town of 29,000 and many social, cultural and recreational opportunities are available. Emporia has four colorful and changing seasons. The climate varies throughout the year with warm summers and occasional snow in the winter.
