University of Iowa
Enjoy the resources of a major research university in the comfortable atmosphere of a small town in the United States.
Academic Excellence
Iowa is the smallest of the public universities in the Big Ten. Our professors are leading experts in their fields, care about their students, and take time for individual teaching.
What we offer
One advantage of attending a university with as many course offerings as Iowa is that you can find lots of variety, flexibility, and special challenges in the curriculum.
Lots of options. More Than 100 Areas of Study allow you to find your niche or pull courses from other areas to create your own field of study.
Distinguished faculty. Top Professors in many fields are eager to mentor promising students.
Research opportunities for undergraduates. Getting involved in Research is a great way to get more out of your education.
Inspiring courses. Honors Courses offer challenging seminars or discussion groups led by top faculty members.
Extra attention. Programs for First-Year Students cover advanced topics in small, discussion sessions and help you find study partners. Programs for Transfer Students help you make connections on campus, and make the transition from another school.
Small class sizes. Attending a large university doesn't mean all of your classes will be large. Class Sizes vary, but most of our classes have fewer than 30 students.
A Vibrant Campus
Our campus is beautiful, pedestrian-friendly, and right next to Iowa City's student-oriented downtown.
What we offer
Social events, sports, and scenery—they are all here, and they are close to or on our campus.
Entertainment. Enjoy live theater, concerts, guest lectures, art exhibits, museums, and bookstores without leaving campus.
Easy access. Live three blocks from Kinnick Stadium, one block from the Iowa River, or four blocks from downtown in one of our residence halls.
Recreation. Read a book on the Pentacrest, join one of the more than 400 student organizations (including 18 social fraternities and 17 sororities), or toss a Frisbee at Hubbard Park.
Athletics. Cheer for the Hawkeyes during Big Ten athletics action, including more than 170 home games, or play intramural basketball at the Field House.
Scenery. Walk the scenic banks of the Iowa River, ride the Iowa River Trail, or rent a kayak at Lake Macbride State Park.
Shopping. Shop national chain stores at the Coral Ridge Mall, or patronize the eclectic boutiques near the heart of campus.
State-of-the-Art Resources
The University of Iowa provides the tools students need to prepare for life after college.
What we offer
Our campus is equipped with talented faculty members, a comprehensive library system, modern academic facilities, and one of the best teaching hospitals in the country.
The latest technology. Iowa offers campus-wide wireless hotspots, high-speed Ethernet ports for every residence hall student, more than 100 laptops available for checkout, and more than 1,000 free computer stations in 26 campus locations.
Top-notch faculty. Iowa has more than 1,700 tenured and tenure-track Faculty Members; 97 percent of them have the highest degrees in their fields.
Cutting-edge classrooms. Iowa instructors bring the latest technological innovations into the classroom, from online publishing to virtual reality environments.
Academic assistance. There are many campus resources for students who need extra academic help, including study skills workshops, writing, math, and speaking labs, and individual Academic Advising sessions.
A comprehensive library system. Iowa's Library System includes more than four million volumes, including periodicals, videos, and electronic reference materials.
State-of-the-art research labs. Iowa's facilities for scientific research are second to none. Undergraduates can use these facilities for class projects, working with renowned professors, or for paid employment.
Multiple performance venues. The University has its own Museum of Art, concert halls, dance recital spaces, and theaters of varying sizes to give students full freedom to express their creativity, practice their craft, and learn from professional touring companies.
Career guidance. The Pomerantz Career Center staff can connect students with internship and job opportunities and help them write résumés and prepare for interviews.
International Students
Nearly 3,000 international students choose to attend Iowa each year. The University has many resources to help you adjust to living in the United States while you get a degree, and one of your first contacts should be with the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS). Also consider contacting one of the many Culture and Nationality Organizations on campus to find more people interested in helping you make the adjustment.

Pharmacy Education at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy
The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy accepts approximately 108 students each year to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program. Admission to this professional program is competitive and is based on academic performance, community service and volunteer work, and commitment to the profession of pharmacy.
Applicants to the Pharm.D. program must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, satisfactory completion of all pre-professional coursework, and at least 12 semester hours of general education electives. A total of 20 semester hours of general education elective courses are required for graduation. Students are encouraged to complete all 20 hours of general education electives before entering the first pharmacy year.

Students must apply online via PharmCAS in the fall semester prior to the year in which they are seeking admission. PharmCAS is a Pharmacy College Application Service owned and managed by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.
Part of the PharmCAS application is a personal essay in which a candidate explains why he or she wants to become a pharmacist and supports this information with autobiographical details including pharmacy, health care, work, or volunteer experiences; related extracurricular activities; leadership roles; or any other important information.
The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT, www.pcatweb.info) is required. Scores must be sent to PharmCAS. Applicants must submit two letters of reference from an employer, professor, or supervisor of a community service project. Personal interviews are also required of candidates, taking place on campus, mostly on Saturdays in February of each year.
The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy will consider applications from U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, Canadian, and other foreign citizens. However, the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy does not offer a Pharm.D. completion program for graduates of foreign pharmacy schools. All candidates must apply to enter the first year of the four-year Pharm.D. program regardless of previous education. Students in the program must complete all graduation requirements to be eligible to receive the Pharm.D.
All pharmacy prerequisite courses should be completed at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States or an English-speaking College or university in Canada that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. Official transcripts from Canadian institutions should be sent directly to the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy. Courses taken outside the U.S. or Canada may be accepted under certain circumstances. Candidates who wish to complete pre-pharmacy coursework at The University of Iowa should apply to the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences as an international undergraduate student (www.uiowa.edu/admissions).
International candidates whose first language is not English must submit results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL, www.ets.org/toefl). TOEFL results should be sent to The University of Iowa (6681). Minimum TOEFL score requirements may be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/graduate/international/english-grad.htm. An ACT English score of 21 or a combined SAT Critical Reading score of 550 may be used to satisfy the TOEFL requirement. TOEFL scores may be a maximum of two years old. Once recommended for admission, international candidates requesting F1 or J1 visa status are required to complete a financial statement showing evidence of adequate support to cover the costs of one full year of study at The University of Iowa: http://www.uiowa.edu/admissions/applications/intl/Intl-Fin-Stmt-10.pdf.
